Dorm Neighbors Blast Rap, Duke Retaliates
One of the most annoying parts of college is the assumption by your neighbors that you actually want to listen to their shitty music at all hours of the day and night. Our neighbors seriously must have brought the biggest bass system that you could legally own, because it was ridiculous. We could feel the bass three dorms down and understand the lyrics of the song 10 dorms down. It was really fucking annoying. The worst part was that they always acted like we were the asshole if we asked them to make the music reasonable. This would also involve 5 minutes of banging on their door as hard as you could to get their attention.
I figured that I would do the only reasonable thing I could think of, which was blasting the most annoying, stuck-in-your-head-all-day songs that I could find. Below you will find the songs that we would put on repeat while we had class from 8am-2pm straight:
These videos were assigned a day of the week and would be set on repeat until I got home.
One day, I was texted by an RA to turn off the music because the neighbors that blasted music all night were complaining. Tough shit. Turns out the RA came into my room and turned it off, after texting me to let me know.
Sorry. Duke doesn't play that game. You can't blast music like an asshole and then bitch until you get your way when you don't like your repercussions. I remote accessed into my laptop through my ipod touch(don't you just LOVE technology?) and resumed the playlist of Wonderful Christmas Time 500 times.
I think after that incident, our neighbors started to understand the basic conventions of volume control. I have no problem with rap music, in fact I really like a lot of it. I just don't like your music playing louder several dorms down at a louder volume than my tv on max.
